Fire at Puri temple

Puri: In a freak incident at the Jagmohan in the abode of lord Jagannath and his siblings, a canopy inside was damaged in a fire on Friday. The canopy caught fire while workers were welding inside the Jagmohan, which has been undergoing repair under the aegis of the Archaeological Survey of India.

Home guard

Cuttack: A woman home guard has levelled allegations of circulating a fake obscene video, which has reportedly gone viral, on WhatsApp against one Pradipta Das. According to her complaint, the accused is married to member of the Sompur Samiti Sabhya in Cuttack and had been blackmailing her using the fake video. The home guard, along with her family members, met the Cuttack superintendent of police (rural) on Friday and sought justice and demanded action against Das.

Murder arrest

Jajpur: Binjharpur police on Friday arrested Purna Chandra Sahu alias Punia from Chhatia for his alleged involvement in the murder of BJP worker Abhimanyu Das. Abhimanyu, who was block president of the BJP’s OBC cell at Binjharpur, was killed in a bomb attack at Naunbanka within Binjharpur police station limits on Sunday night. Abhimanyu murder had intensified political protests in the area with senior leaders of the BJP alleging ‘direct involvement’ of the BJD’s MLA from Binjharpur, Pramila Mallick, in the murder.

Tension

Sambalpur: The death of a worker after falling off a blast furnace on the premises of Rengali-based Shyam Metallics factory on Friday sparked tensions in the area. Demanding adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased, identified as Gudu Kumar Sahani of Bihar, workers of the factory sat on a dharna in front of the main gate. They also asked the factory authorities to take steps to minimise accidents at the factory.

Bribe cuffs

Bhubaneswar: Sleuths of the vigilance department on Friday arrested Raghunath Mandal, superintending engineer, Bhanjanagar electrical circle, while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 30,000 from one Santosh Kumar Patro, a clerk of the Bhanjanagar electrical division to cancel a transfer order.
