Balangir: Kantabanjhi police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly raping a Dalit girl on false promise of marriage and dumping her after having physical relationship with her.
The accused has been identified as Pitabas Rout of Sargul village in Kantabanjhi police limits. The police have registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC. Medical examination have been conducted on both the accused and the girl. The accused was produced in court on Tuesday afternoon and later sent to judicial custody as his bail plea was rejected.
A source said Rout worked at a brick kiln in Bangalore. He met the girl whose family worked in the same kiln. The accused is already married and has four children. He developed intimacy with the girl, who belonged to Bahabal village in Turekela police limits.
Kantabanjhi sub-divisional police officer Prafulla Kumar Mishra said the accused lied to the victim about his marital status.
"According to the complaint of the girl, the accused had hidden his marital status. He took her to Punjipathar village of Chhattisgarh on April 10 on the false promise of marriage. There he forcibly established physical relationship with her at a rented house," Mishra said.
Snakebite
A 12-year-old tribal boy died of snakebite at Ahigola village in Kenojhar on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Jitu Juang.
