Cuttack, March 16: Head of a Kerala police team today said former DGP Bidya Bhusan Mohanty had confirmed that Raghav Rajan was indeed his son Bitti Mohanty.
The former DGP identified Bitti when he was shown a picture of Raghav Rajan, who was arrested by Kerala Police on charges of impersonation and forgery.
A team of Kerala police today interrogated Bidya Bhusan at the office of Cuttack deputy commissioner of police for nearly four hours.
“The senior Mohanty identified Bitti from a photograph shown to him today,” said Joshy Jose, head of the Kerala police team, which is now in the state to investigate the case.
“We haven’t found any evidence of the former DGP’s role in helping his son to forge documents. Our investigation is open and we have no further plans to interrogate Bidya Bhusan Mohanty,” Jose said.
Bitti, who had earlier claimed himself to be Raghav Rajan from Andhra Pradesh, was arrested on March 8 in Kannur on charges of cheating and forging documents to secure a job as a probationary officer with State Bank of Travancore.
The police team from Kerala had verified the documents and other education certificates submitted for securing the bank job.
The team had visited Stewart School and Christ College in Cuttack and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), where Bitti had studied. The police was now of the opinion that all the educational certificates submitted by Bitti were forged.
The Kerala police said the statement of marks and ICSE certificate issued to Bitti after completion of his Class X board exams from Stewart School — matched with the certificate produced by Rajan.
When asked whether the arrested Rajan was his son Bitti, Bidya Bhusan told mediapersons that the matter was sub-judice and he would not say anything.
Kerala police sources said the telephone call records of the man suspected to be Bitti were also examined while the interrogation of Bidya Bhusan Mohanty was videographed.
