Bhubaneswar, Jan. 20: The department of higher education has decided to install air-conditioners with generator back-ups at the Council of Higher Secondary Education evaluation centres.
The move will be initiated to provide a favourable environment for teachers evaluating Plus Two answer sheets to minimise errors.
Teachers engaged in the evaluation process have been alleging that frequent power cuts and unbearable heat often lead to error in grading, which consequently resulted in protests from students and parents. Last year, around 55,000 students registered for re-evaluation alleging wrong markings.
This was decided during a principals' meet organised today to ensure the smooth functioning of examination management hubs.
It was decided that 47 evaluation centres and 203 exam management hubs would be set up.
The hubs will have a have a strong room where the question paper packets will be stored. This room shall have only one entry and exit point in order to ensure proper security. There will be no windows or any other exposure in the hub.
The exit door will have an iron grill gate in addition to wooden doors and the electricity connection to the room will be disconnected in order to avoid short circuit when not in use.
The entry and exit of persons to and from the room will be restricted with the hub personnel only and should be recorded in register kept at the gate.
Though nothing was decided about e-evaluation, the council authorities said it would be announced any moment. 'In that case, the centres will also have computers and other infrastructure required,' said council chairman Basudev Chattoi.
