Cuttack, Oct. 15: The National Law University here will host a two-day national conference on intellectual property rights starting from October 18.
A university official said the conference aimed to deliberate emerging trends and various issues related to intellectual property rights.
“The conference will discuss various issues keeping in view the new intellectual property rights policy that is being formulated by the Union government,” said vice-chancellor of the university Srikrishna Deva Rao.
Various papers will be presented, and eminent legal experts will hold discussions on various topics such as software patent and Indian software industry, non-traditional trademarks, trademark registration, entertainment laws of India, China and US at the conference.
Other sessions on the significance of intellectual property rights in the entertainment industry, moral rights and digital issues in the music industry, bioinformatics: the next generation of biotechnology and intellectual property rights available to it will also be held.
Rao said the objective of the conference was to protect intellectual property rights to give adequate scope to the new innovations in the country.
The national conference assumes importance as intellectual property rights cover a broad spectrum of industries, NGOs, government, companies, institutions, including pharmaceutical, apparel, sports, electronics and others.
Besides, the university also plans to create awareness about intellectual property rights to serve as a platform to assist people in lending legal support to protect their innovations in India and abroad.
The university official said the national conference would be helpful for the students in understanding intellectual property rights, problems faced by a lot of people, companies and others.
“We are getting a lot of experts, and the conference will help students understand the subject, so that they can come out with solutions with their own skills and handle such issues,” Rao said.
