Event to encourage research scholars

The National Institute of Technology here is currently organising research scholars' week.

Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology here is currently organising research scholars' week.

"Thought we call this the week for the research scholars, the programme is taking place for only two days," said professor Bamdev Acharya.

Addressing the inaugural session of the programme, director of Indian Institute of technology Bhillai Rajat Moona said: "Research is the backbone of any economy and no country can proceed further without having a strong research orientation amongst the students," he said.

NIT Rourlela director Animseh Biswas said: "We are committed to maintain a research base and produce quality papers and solutions to many issues."

At present, there are more than 900 research scholars at the institute in various subjects. However, a maximum of 200 would be allowed to display their research findings at the Rajendra Mishra Hall. The top performers will be awarded prizes and certificates.

"Most of our scholars are well-placed as faculty in research labs such as Defence Research and Development Organisation, Indian Space Research Organisation and in multi-national organisations," said dean, academics, Kamalakanta Mohapatra, who is also the chairman of the committee that would evaluate the performances and demonstration of the scholars.

Mohapatra said: "Two of my researchers are working on a project which will help to produce sounds for body gestures of hearing and speech impaired people."
