Bhubaneswar, March 27: The theatre juggernaut continues to roll with city-based cultural organisation Parampara celebrating its ninth annual festival consisting of music, dance and drama programmes.

Also, on the occasion of World Theatre Day, a drama festival kicked off in Rourkela and a felicitation ceremony took place in Bhubaneswar.

A play Madhab Das Ra Suanga directed by the secretary of the host team Prasanna Mishra was presented on Tuesday evening at Rabindra Mandap.

Written by Manoj Mitra and later translated into Odia by Suresh Balabanta Ray, the play told the story of Madhab Das, who runs a theatre troupe in a remote village.

Das is a man with a heart of gold and goes out of his way to help people. He even takes the blame of others on himself and also serves their punishment.

In the course of time, he realises that he has been helping criminals and thus decides to go after them. The periodic play shows the saviour turning into an executor.

The background score by Maheswar Sahoo was aptly in sync with the sub-plots.

On Wednesday, the concluding day of the festival, Parampara Awards were given to musician Pranab Kishore Patnaik, dancer Utsab Charan Das and dramatist Satchidananda Das. The awards were followed by a musical concert.

The curtains on the festival came down with Swapna, a play directed by Suvransu Sekhar Parida.

In Rourkela, Sampark theatre group started its four-day theatre festival on Thursday evening to mark the celebrations of the World Theatre Day.
