Sambalpur, Jan. 5: After food supplies minister Sanjay Das Burma, it was the turn of health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.
A group of Youth Congress activists today hurled eggs at health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak's car at Kurada in Deogarh district. The party's youth activists had hurled eggs on food supplies minister Sanjay Das Burma's car in Puri and Chatrapur earlier.
Nayak was on his way to Deogarh to visit the district headquarters hospital when the Youth Congress members hurled eggs on his car near Kurada, 5km from Deogarh. The health minister, however, did not alter his programme and visited the hospital.
Deogarh district Congress committee president Sem Hembrum said the workers protested against the state government's apathy towards the district. "The workers today expressed their resentment against the poor health service and irregularities in the preparation of the ration card list of Deogarh district."
"We will intensify our protests in the coming days if the state government does not hold the special recruitment drive for the educated unemployed. It has completely failed to address students' issues," said president of the National Students' Union of India, Odisha, Itish Pradhan.
Senior Congress leadersHowever, former party MLA Debasis Patnaik said protests by hurling eggs were against the Congress culture. The BJD alleged that the students' wing of the Congress was resorting to such ugly protests out of frustration. Senior BJD leader Amar Prasad Satpathy described these protests as "indecent and undemocratic". "They could have lodged protest in a democratic manner," said Satpathy.
