Jajpur: Twenty residents of Kacharasahi and Nahankula villages under Korei block in the district have been affected by diarrhoea over the past three days, said reports.
The affected persons are being treated at Area Hospital at Jajpur Road, the community health centre at Korei, Pacchikote Primary Health Centre and the district headquarters hospital at Jajpur.
According to reports, the condition of five patients is critical and they have been shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Jajpur town. A medical team has reached the affected village.
Three of a family of Kacharasahi village complained of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea on Friday. They were rushed to the area hospital at Jajpur Road. Fifteen more villagers were affected by diarrhoea and admitted to different hospitals on Saturday. On Sunday, two more residents of Nahankula village were affected by the water-borne disease and admitted to the same hospital.
"As one of the tube wells in our village is defunct and the water of another one is unfit for drinking, we are forced to drink water from an open well located in the village," said Bhagaban Das, a resident of Kacharasahi.
"We have disinfected all the water bodies in the village. Halogen and ORS packets have been distributed to families of affected persons," said Jajpur chief district medical officer Rudra Prasad Kar.
