Economists' meet at Niser

Economists from across the country will attend the 53rd Annual Conference of The Indian Econometric Society (TIES), which begins tomorrow.

Bhubaneswar, Dec. 21: Economists from across the country will attend the 53rd Annual Conference of The Indian Econometric Society (TIES), which begins tomorrow.

The event will be hosted by the National Institute of Science Education and Research (Niser), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS). The vice-chairman of NITI Aayog, Arvind Panagariya, will inaugurate the two-day event.

TIES is one of the oldest bodies of professional econometricians and quantitative economists with more than 2,000 members from all over India and abroad.

Econometricians are those who integrate statistics and mathematics into economic analysis.

The society organises an annual conference where experts from all over India and abroad deliberate on various issues.

This is the first time that the event is being in Odisha and holds special importance in view of the present debate over demonetisation and its effects on various sectors of the Indian economy.

A number of economists such as Dillip Mookherjee of Boston University, M. Gobinda Rao, member, Fourteenth Finance Commission of India, Pami Dua, director, Delhi School of Economics, Santosh Panda of South Asian University will deliver talks at the conference.

The president of the 53rd TIES conference Bandi Kamaiah, School of Economics, Central University, Hyderabad, will also address the event.

"More than 350 delegates will attend the conference," said Amarendra Das, the local organising secretary for the event.
