Keonjhar: A drunk youth allegedly hacked her mother to death at her home at Mohantasahi village in Daitary police station limits in the district on Sunday night.

The accused, Bidyadhar Naik, returned home drunk and had a verbal duel with his mother Malati Naik, 55. Bidyadhar allegedly picked up a stick and hit his mother on the head when she complained of his drinking problems. Malati fell down there and lost her consciousness.

But Bidyadhar was allegedly so drunk that he failed to understand what exactly had happened.

He fast fell asleep. When he woke up on Monday morning, he found that his mother had bled profusely and died unattended.

Seeing this, he himself came to the police station and surrendered with repentance, said a police officer.

He was booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and was forwarded to court, said inspector of Daitary police station Sashmita Chillar.

She added that prima facie it seemed to be an unintentional murder. The accused was an alcohol addict. He did not understand what he had done in inebriated state, she said.
