Bhubaneswar: Police have decided to take the help of drone fitted with high-definition camera in and around the Kalinga Stadium, the venue of the Men's Hockey World Cup scheduled in November, as a security measure.
"The drone will be deployed over the venue to keep a close watch on the players, officials, crowd and the traffic near the venue during matches. A special team will control and operate the drone from the police control room. Apart from the CCTVs, the drone cameras will help us get a broad-side view of the entire stadium, stands and the crowd," said police commissioner Satyajit Mohanty.
He also said no other drones except those deployed by the organiser, police and the broadcaster would be allowed near the venue.
In another development, Odisha Tourism signed a six-month content partnership agreement with the travel and online booking site, TripAdvisor.
Under this agreement, TripAdvisor has created a microsite https://www.tripadvisor.in/ Tourism-g297660-Odisha-Vacations.html with the inventory of beautiful places to visit in Odisha.
The site also includes campaign branding by Odisha Tourism, which is also the host partner of the hockey world cup. The reach covers India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the UK.
Tourim secretary Vishal Dev said: "It's great to have a global name such as TripAdvisor on board to help us get more travellers to Odisha, especially in the coming months when the state will be buzzing with activities across all sectors. We are also host partner of the hockey event and are expecting substantial foreign footfall."
"We want to leverage TripAdvisor's global network and strong understanding of regional travel trade and market nuances to shape and spur growth in this region," he said.
TripAdvisor head of destination marketing for Asia Pacific Sarah Mathews said: "As the world's largest travel site, TripAdvisor and its community inspire people to travel and discover new places. We are glad to have the opportunity to work with Odisha Tourism to ensure that travellers, who consider visiting India, will not only visit its popular destinations but go beyond and experience all that Odisha has to offer."
