Cuttack: All eyes are on the outcome of the DNA test that is expected to solve the alleged baby swapping case at the obstetrics and gynaecology department of SCB hospital.
Prahalad Mohapatra of Balichandrapur in Jajpur district alleged in a police complaint that his wife Madhusmita had given birth to a male child, but the baby was swapped with a girl child by labour room workers.
"Blood samples from the couple and the baby girl have been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for DNA test after getting the required permission from the magistrate," Manglabag police station inspector-in-charge Arun Kumar Swain said.
"We took recourse to the DNA test to ascertain the biological parents of the girl child as nothing came out of the CCTV footages in the department," Swain said.
"The court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate, Cuttack, granted permission to the police on Friday to conduct the DNA test as the complainant had appealed for it," assistant public prosecutor Biswajit Baral said.
According to the complaint, Madhusmita delivered a baby in SCB on January 26. Following delivery, her family members were not allowed to visit the bed allotted to her, nor were they informed about the baby's gender for around an hour.
