Bhubaneswar, Aug. 24: Youngsters zooming past on their bikes are a common sight in the roads of the capital. Taking inspiration from this scene director Biswa Bhushan Mohapatra’s latest Oriya movie Anjali is based on bike racing challenges among college students.

The concept of this film is one of a kind and has never been tried before in Oriya films before.

Everything in the film looks absolutely trendy in order to attract young viewers.

From costume to make-up of the artists to the sets everything is exotic.

One would feel as if it is just the replica of real Bhubaneswar in Anjali.

Director Biswa Bhushan Mohapatra explains that he chose the subject of college goers since they are the representatives of Bhubaneswar in today’s time.

“Even though clichéd family stories are based on lifestyle of Bhubaneswar the films target especially the young viewers across the state. So, I thought why not show the youth of Bhubaneswar as the city is full of college students,” he said.

The film has a fresh and young cast and not many veteran stars have been included in it. “I have tried to recreate the ambience of college life by casting new faces. They look just like ordinary college students. Casting hit stars and veterans overshadows the real character behind their image,” added Mohapatra.

While video album star Aditya better known as Bulu is playing a headstrong biker, Bhubaneswar boy Raj is making his debut in this film. “It is the most exciting project I have ever worked on. No one even dreams of making films on college life nowadays. The film has the right spirit of college life,” said Aditya.College story without pretty girls is unthinkable!

For the love angle in the film model Debasmita who hails from Puri and Bengal damsel Sampurna Chakraborty have been cast.

“We have very different and fashionable looks in the film. Smoky eyes, streaked hair colour and hip costumes signify the college girls of the city,” said Sampurna.

The film has a number of stunts on bikes but it has also some glimpses of family scenes, revealed Mohapatra.

“I have shown the parents point of view in the movie. It’s a common thing for middle class families here to get their wards fashionable bikes even by taking loans just to fulfil their wishes. But the youngsters just vroom the accelerator to express their attitude,” he explained.

Shot in the valleys of Ladakh for songs, the rest of the movie has been set in Bhubaneswar. Mohapatra, who is essentially a cinematographer used to assist Santosh Sivan till the Hindi film Asoka and was also in the entertainment department of a Delhi based news channel.

He is also the cinematographer, script writer, visual editor for the film. This is his second film after Chup Kiye Asuchi that released a couple of years back.
