The Bhubaneswar edition of the TCS IT Wiz quiz contest on September 6 was a tough cerebral event, ending in a nail biting finish. The team of Ayush Kumar Sinha and Sameer Sekhar Patra from DAV Public School (Unit-VIII) in the capital emerged champions and were awarded the winner’s trophy and android smartphones.

Abinash Palai and Kumar Sailesh Mishra from BJB Junior College, Bhubaneswar, finished in second place.

Over 1,300 students from various city schools took part in the annual event, which is one of the biggest quizzing events for students from classes VIII to XII.

The quiz mainly dealt with IT applications across various sectors and areas where IT has made an impact — education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, Internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking, blogging and cell phones.

Only six teams made it to the final round and received gift hampers such as laptop backpacks, pen drives, coffee mugs, earphones, binoculars and t-shirts.

There were prizes for students in the audience too.

Commissioner-cum-secretary of the IT department Madhusudan Padhi and TCS Bhubaneswar chief Manoj Panda gave away the awards.

The highlight of the TCS IT Wiz 2012 was the launch of what is being touted as India’s first animation-based quiz software created by quizmaster Giri Balasubramanium, popularly known as Pickbrain, and his team.

The regional finals this year was a unique game-based format, driven by special software.

The grand finale will be held in Delhi in December.

There, winners from 14 cities along with the winner of the United Arab Emirates round, will compete for the TCS IT Wiz National Champion title.
