Bhubaneswar, April 22: Success hasn’t come easy for Rajasmita, but now that it has, there’s no stopping her. Fame apart, the spunky youngster now has a number of lucrative offers and a brand new car in her kitty.
After Harihar Dash, Prince dance group, Mandakini Jena and Manas Sahoo, it’s Rajasmita Kar, who has made Odisha proud. Rajasmita, the 21-year-old from Rourkela, recently bagged the prestigious Dance India Dance crown after battling it out against 18 strong contenders.
She is the newest celebrity of the state and is on cloud nine weaving dreams to make it big in the choreography circle of Bollywood. Wellwisher and promoter of Rajasmita, Bana Babu, said: “Offers have already started pouring in. Remo, one of the dance gurus of the show, has roped in Rajasmita with a signing amount of Rs 5 lakh for his next movie with dance as the central theme.” Besides, her mentor Gita and one of the guests of the finale, actor Akshay Kumar, have given her one lakh rupees each. The producers of the show have also promised a spectacular opening for the winner. She has also evinced interest in choreographing for Odia films, if given an opportunity.
Rajasmita, who came from a lower middle class family, knew that excelling in academics was not her cup of tea. It was dance that gave her a zest for life. Even as a young girl, Rajasmita had a penchant for dancing to any music at all odd hours.
The dancer, who couldn’t complete her high school because of financial problems, always dreamt of shaking a leg with respected dancers of the country. She participated in a couple of local dance competitions before stepping a foot outside the state.
Mumbai gave her that much-needed break. Her mentors and judges of the show Remo, Terrence and Gita Ma taught her the nuances that Rajasmita did not know. Thanks to the show, the youngster has now mastered freestyle, contemporary, Bollywood, lindy hop and karagattam.
Rajasmita snatched the coveted sunehri taqdeer ki topi (the golden hat of destiny) from four strong contestants – Pradeep Gurung from Assam, Raghav Juyal from Dehradun, Sanam Johar from Delhi and Mohena Singh from Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa.
“I’m feeling on top of the world right now. My well-wishers and the messages from viewers helped me win. The mentors really groomed me well and today I am confident of performing any dance style with ease,” said Rajasmita.
