Sambalpur: A controversy has started over the construction of Ong dam in Bargarh district with groups both in favour and against the project.

Leaders of the pro-dam Anchalik Krushak Sangathan are on a fast unto death while the residents of Pujaripali have sought permission of the President of India to die in protest against the project.

President of Anchalik Krushak Sangathan Gobardhan Bhoi, along with 16 supporters, on Monday launched an indefinite hunger fast in front of the office of the Padampur sub-collector, about 140km from here, in support of the dam.

Five hunger strike agitators were admitted to the sub-divisional hospital at Padampur after their health deteriorated.
