Sambalpur, April 5: The district sessions court here sentenced a person with rigorous imprisonment for eight years and also fined Rs 3,000 for killing his two-months-old kid. In case of default in paying the amount, the convict will have to undergo imprisonment for six more months.

Damodar Budek, a resident of Papadera under Burla police limits, had killed his two-months-old kid on February 8 last year. On the day of the incident, Jamini Budek, wife of the accused, was sitting with her two children.

There was an altercation between the couple and an enraged Damodar assaulted his two-months-old kid Biki. When Jamini tried to resist, the accused pushed her snatching the child from her lap. Damodar then held the kid from his legs keeping his head down and started swinging which resulted in Biki’s death.

After considering the evidence of witness Jamini and the medical opinion, session judge S.N. Mishra convicted the accused under Section 304 of the IPC and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for eight years, said public prosecutor Artatrana Mishra and associate public prosecutor Gyanaranjan Parida.
