Bhubaneswar, Sept. 29: Three mobile phones and cash worth Rs 10,000 were stolen today from a dormitory occupied by players of east zone at the Kalinga Sports Complex.

The incident happened 10 days after Under-19 rugby team of Kerala were robbed of 10 cell phones and cash worth Rs 25,000 at the stadium.

At present, the stadium is hosting the All India SAI Inter-regional Hockey Tournament.

"This morning when we returned to our room after a match, we were shocked to find the lock of our room broken. We found three mobile phones and cash worth around Rs 10,000 missing from our room," alleged an east zone player.

The incident has left the stadium authorities red-faced, as this is the seventh such theft in the past three months. A fortnight ago, the goons had committed theft of mobile phones and other valuables from the College of Physical Education's hostel.

Officer in charge of Kalinga Sports Complex Barija Mohanty said the players had been advised to lodge a formal complaint at Nayapalli police station in this connection.

"The players brought the matter to our notice, and we advised them to report the matter to the police," said Mohanty.

Earlier, the stadium authorities had written to the sports department for installation of closed-circuit television cameras at the entrance to dormitories and hostels in order to prevent thefts.

The sports complex built on 60 acres is a multipurpose stadium with facilities for hockey, football, swimming, tennis, basketball and athletics. The stadium hosts a number of state and national-level tournaments.

The stadium authorities blame it on the lack of security on the premises. "We have around 20 guards for the vast area. Majority of them are deployed at the 10 entry and exit gates. Besides, there is no restriction on entry of outsiders to the stadium as it is a public property," said an official.
