Cuttack, Sept. 10: A group of students from Ravenshaw University have come up with innovative creations, which promise to create a buzz in the market.
From aerated soft drinks and rain alarms to remote-controlled luggage carriers, these young entrepreneurs — all second-year commerce students — have made the products from household materials and put them on display at an exhibition, Go Innovations, to be held on the varsity campus tomorrow.
Organised by the commerce department, the exhibition aims to boost the hidden potentials and creativity of students and encourage them to design meaningful products and put forth new concepts and business models.
“Ten groups consisting of seven to 10 members will showcase their creations that are eco-friendly and cost-effective. Some of them have come up with unique concepts, websites and environment-friendly products that are likely to make an impression,” said head of commerce department Sanjay Satpathy.
During the exhibition, a seminar (challenges and opportunity for young generation entrepreneurs) will also be held. “We will launch an aerated pineapple drink made from pineapple squash. This is the time that pineapple flavoured drink will be marketed in the city,” said Kasturi Banerjee, the team leader of Nexos group, which has another product, Marigold oil, to its credit. The oil can be used an antiseptic lotion and painkiller.
Another group, Technovative, has created a pen-cum-lighter and pointer, an herbal eye-mask (model) and an encrypted website.
Their website, technovatives.weebly.com, will serve as a platform for university students to upload their products for marketing and also to sell their old stuff.
“The students can sell their old articles such as bikes, sunglasses and books. We are also trying to collaborate with Café Coffee Day and Mobile Store to promote and expand our base in future,” said Abhisekh Tripathy, the leader of Techonovative.
Members of Srusti group have started a website for booking tickets for travelling by air, road, rail or sea. The group is also working on launching various tour packages. “Our website, allbookings.com, will be a one-stop solution for travellers,” said group member D. Ashok.
A mosquito repellent, plastic purse made using old bottles, a garbage bag and rain alerts are the creations of Resolution to Revolution. Team member Gaurav Mishra said: “We are trying to enhance the fragrance of the mosquito repellent which will be cost-effective as we are using kerosene, camphor among other ingredients. Another interesting product of ours is the combo shoe, which is specially designed for physically handicapped persons. It has a torch, umbrella and brush attached to it.”
