Sambalpur, Aug. 20: People are facing problems while travelling through the crater-filled Pensionpara-Senpark road, an important road of the city. The road connects Lajpat Rai Law College and Sen Park, one of the oldest parks of the city.

“The municipality is aware that this is an important road of the city. Hundreds of students of Lajapat Rai Law College and Zilla School are dependent on it. But the authorities are indifferent to its condition,” said Zulphikar Ali Bhutto, a local resident.

He said that the residents of the locality had brought the matter to the notice of the municipality several times. “Despite several complaints, no step had yet been taken to repair the road,” said Bhutto.

The local residents said the road had been lying in this condition since long.

“Accidents take place regularly on this road because of the numerous potholes. During rain, the condition of the road becomes even worse. The craters get filled with water and make driving very difficult,” said another resident of the city, Janardan Sahu.

“I always try to avoid using this road. I don’t know why the authorities concerned are not taking any initiatives to repair this road. They should at least think about the large number of students who depend on it,” said Rajesh, an autorickshaw driver.

Hundreds of people also use this road to go to Sen Park.

“Sen Park is one of the major attractions of the city. But it is unfortunate that the road, which leads to the beautiful place, is lying in such a sad condition,” said Anchal Mohanty, a homemaker and a frequent visitor to the park.

Sambalpur Municipality executive officer Aniruddha Pradhan said: “Initiative has been taken to repair this road. We have floated a tender for this purpose. The road will be reconstructed soon.”
