Bhubaneswar: Police have decided to intensify night patrolling and crackdown on hotels and dhabas running till late in the night.

The police have advised people to carry identity proof along with vehicle documents if they are outdoors till late.

The decision to crack down on hotels and dhabas was taken after a 35-year-old working as a sales manager with an automobile company was allegedly abducted by four men on Tuesday night from near a dhaba in Tamando. The victim, Nrusingha Swain, a resident of Unit-VIII, was found injured and bleeding at Pipili on Wednesday morning.

Sources said several roadside dhabas and hotels remain open after midnight in Khandagiri, Cuttack Road, Tamando and Nayapalli. These establishments not only sell food but also liquor.

Deputy commissioner of police Anup Kumar Sahoo asked people to carry identity proof along with driving license and documents of vehicles. "We have also instructed the police stations concerned to ensure that people visiting hospitals and railway stations are not harassed," said Sahoo.

The police have decided intensify night patrolling on NH-16 and NH-203 passing through the city. A number of snatch and loot cases have been reported on both the national highways in recent past, most of them at night.

"A meeting will shortly be convened with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and National Highways Authority of India to fix defunct street lights on these two highways," said the police.

"On most occasions, the police ask us to produce all kinds of documents, including insurance papers and emission test certificate apart from driving license and registration certificate at night," said Abhijit Jena, a resident of Rasulgarh.
