Bhubaneswar, Aug 9: The crime branch today interrogated the director and an ENT specialist of Capital Hospital here in connection with issuing a “fake” disabled certificate to Srabani Kar, the wife of an aide of Motilal Gauda.

Srabani’s husband Himanshu Kar alias Happy is believed to be a close associate of Motilal Gauda, assistant director (medical), department of labour and employees state insurance, who is accused of fabricating a government gazette notification.

While ENT specialist Santosh Kumar Panda appeared before the investigating agency’s office in the city, another team went to the government hospital to interrogate director B.B. Pattanaik.

“A senior police official came to the hospital today and enquired about the disabled certificate issued to Kar’s wife in 2008. The certificate was issued on the basis of approval from the hospital’s medical board. We have provided them with all the documents,” said Pattanaik. Sources said the certificate described Srabani as 40 per cent hearing impaired.

During his tenure as a clerk in Capital Hospital from 2000 to 2010, Kar allegedly obtained a disabled contractor licence for his wife and grabbed work orders worth crores.

Srabani’s role came under the scanner after the investigating agency found that she had been awarded work orders worth Rs 10 crore between 2009 and 2015. Sources said that B.N. Constructions, which was registered in Srabani’s name, had done the job. Police also said Srabani had earned Rs 3.5 crore in 2014-15 as recorded in her income tax returns.
