Bhubaneswar, Nov. 3: Sanitisation of the players’ travelling route, three-tier screening at the stadium and eviction of unauthorised occupants feature in the police plan for the forthcoming One-Day International match between India and West Indies to be held at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on November 29.
During the preparatory meeting held in Bhubaneswar, the police also stressed on adopting high-security measures such as deploying an anti-terrorist squad, a quick-reaction team and preparing for stampede control and detection of improvised explosive devices.
According to information provided by the secretary of the Orissa Cricket Association (OCA), Ashirbad Behera, both teams will arrive at Biju Pattnaik airport in Bhubaneswar at 11am on November 27 on a chartered plane. The players will then head to Mayfair Hotel. On November 28, the teams would go to Barabati Stadium for practice.
“The West Indies team will go to the stadium at 10.30am and the home team at 12.30pm,” said Behera.
Police commissioner B.K Sharma said that after the teams arrived at the airport, police vans would escort them to the hotel.
“There will be massive security and traffic arrangements during their stay,” said Sharma.
Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Cuttack, Praveen Kumar, gave a presentation on the possible security concerns, traffic arrangement, parking and security arrangement for players and spectators. “Checking all external routes to the stadium and multiple checking at the entrance gates will be adopted. Closed-circuit television cameras will be installed across the stadium and the gates. Vendors selling goods inside the stadium will be provided with identity cards,” said the DCP.
The police and OCA staff members said they would ensure that there is no black-marketing of tickets this time. At present, the sitting capacity at the stadium has been upgraded to around 45,000 against the previous strength of 39,000. Around 44,570 tickets would be printed, out of which 34,570 would be sold.
Among them, more than 20,000 would be for the general public and around 12,000 would be for BCCI-affiliated bodies. Behera said the tickets for affiliated bodies would be sold on November 23 and 24 and for the general public on November 26.
“The ticket prices will be same as previous years. A new AC box has been added this year,” said the secretary, adding that the entire match has been insured for a sum of Rs 15 crore.
Apart from the police, representatives of Central Industrial Security Forces, which guard the airport and the hotel where the players will stay and the Group IV security agency that would be deployed at the stadium were present during the meeting.
“There are 26 more days to go before the match. We will hold security drills at the stadium. We will ensure that no problems like the ones we faced in previous years arise this time,” said the police commissioner.
