Bhubaneswar, Nov 28: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the two-day visit of President Pranab Mukherjee to the state.

The President will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and Rama Devi Women’s (Autonomous) College in the city during his visit.

Police commissioner R.P. Sharma said that more than 30 platoons of police personnel would be deployed for the visit. “Adequate policemen would be deputed on the route of the President. Senior police officials would monitor the security arrangements,” said Sharma.

Official sources said Mukherjee would arrive in Bhubaneswar tomorrow evening and would drive to Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya.

On Sunday morning, he would leave for Madanpur-Rampur in Kalahandi district and inaugurate the newly constructed Vivekananda Memorial Hall inside the Ramakrishna Ashram.

The President is also scheduled to visit Puri on Sunday afternoon where he will spend two hours and return to Bhubaneswar to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Rama Devi Women’s (Autonomous) College in the evening.

Sources said during his two-hour visit to Puri, Mukherjee would visit the Jagannath temple. “Around 24 platoons of police personnel would be deployed for the visit. Adequate cops would be deployed on the route he will take,” said Puri police chief Ashish Kumar Singh.

Mukherjee had been to Puri earlier on April 25 and September 6 last year.

Sources said that Mukherjee is scheduled to land in Puri on a chopper around 2.10 pm and would spend around 20 minutes in the temple.

“He would go to Raj Bhavan in Puri where he will have his lunch. Then he is scheduled to leave for Bhubaneswar around 4 pm,” said a senior police official in Puri.

The state government has engaged hundreds of workers to beautify the routes on which the President’s convoy will move in Bhubaneswar and Puri. Moreover, a fresh coat of paint is being given to Raj Bhavan buildings in Bhubaneswar and Puri and defunct streetlights and roads are also being repaired.
