Cuttack: One week on, police have been unable to get any clues in the case of a woman's body being found in a gunny bag near Government Press High School in Madhupatna police limits.
The police have neither been able to ascertain the cause of death nor identify the body.
What has made matters difficult for the police is the post-mortem report. The forensic and toxicology department at SCB Medical College and Hospital has reserved its opinion in the autopsy report till availability of the chemical report on the body.
Assistant commissioner of police Anil Mishra said the opinion in the post-mortem has been reserved as no injury has been found on the body. Nothing suggestive of the cause of death has been found.
"We have sent the viscera of the body to the state forensic laboratory for examination. Once we received the chemical report from the laboratory, it will be submitted for the final autopsy report," Mishra said.
The chemical report helps ascertain whether the death was caused by poisoning or consumption of poisonous substance. "We will also soon go for DNA profiling for identification of the woman if someone comes forward claiming to be her relative," Mishra said. "Photographs of the woman have already been circulated but no one has come forward."
Madhupatna police had found the body inside a gunny bag dumped near Government Press High School on March 12 evening. The cops had gone there after people complained of stench emanating from the abandoned gunny bag.
The doctor who conducted the post-mortem said in his report that the woman had died more than 72 hours before her body was found. The woman had lost all her teeth, so could be over 70 years, police said.
