Bhubaneswar, Aug. 1: A heated exchange between two groups of students over putting up banners on the BJB College campus in the city triggered tension, but timely intervention by police prevented the war of words from turning into a major clash.
Police sources attributed the incident to pre-poll disturbance on the campus and said the two warring groups owed allegiance to a common political party.
“One group opposed the other’s attempt to erect a temporary stand to put up a banner for its presidential candidate,” said the source.
He added that the schedule for college union elections, which usually takes place in September, had not been announced as yet.
College authorities said they informed the Badagada police, who rushed to the spot.
