Bhubaneswar, May 11: Mother’s Day is around the corner and children are making special plans to surprise their moms. But, they believe it is no longer the usual suspects — flowers, chocolates and trinkets — that will make their mom’s day. These new-age kids have a list of cool, unique ideas up their sleeves.
Ritika, 13, plans to make breakfast-in-bed for her homemaker mother.
“Sunday will be a day to show my appreciation to my mother, who wakes up early every day and does a dozen household chores without complaining. I am just an amateur chef, so I want to keep it simple. Breakfast will be a cup of ginger tea, toast and Spanish omelette. I am thinking of baking a cake too,” said Ritika, a Class VIII student.
Priyankita, who has passed Class XII this year, said she has been saving her pocket money for the last six months to buy a spa package for her mother. “My mother toils all day long and has no time for herself. She needs to unwind. A good spa session followed by lunch at a good restaurant will be the perfect present for her,” she said.
The teenager has also contacted her mother’s old friends through a social networking site and has asked them to meet her for lunch.
“Mother’s Day is an occasion to show her how grateful I am to her. After all, she is the woman who brought me into this world, spent sleepless nights to look after me when I was a baby, never forgot to pack my and put up with my tantrums!” said Priyankita.
College student and guitarist Ankit has decided to go the musical way. The 19-year-old has composed a special song for his mother. “She thinks my music is noise. This is a great opportunity for me to change her mind,” laughed Ankit. “I will gift her a card and a bouquet in the morning. I have invited my aunts over for dinner and will play the song then. I am sure they will love it,” he said on an optimistic note.
Students of Mother’s Business School here have penned down poems, anecdotes and designed posters as a tribute to their mothers. “Mother’s Day is a day to show my mother how thankful I am for her love and lessons,” said Saurav, a Class XI student.
The school will organise a mini-marathon on Sunday morning to celebrate the spirit of motherhood. It will be flagged off from the Mother’s Public School grounds and culminate at the same place after covering five kilometres. Noted sportspersons, including footballer Shraddhanjali Samantaray, cricketer Debasish Mohanty and athlete Anuradha Biswal, are expected to participate in the event.
