Bhubaneswar: The vigilance on Wednesday raided the Nayapalli residence of senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar, a day after a special vigilance court convicted in connection with a case of misappropriation of funds. However, the officer is yet to be traced.

The court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, on Tuesday convicted six persons, including 1989 batch IAS officer Vinod Kumar in connection with a funds misappropriation case in 2007 during their stint with the Odisha Rural Housing and Development Corporation Limited. While the court had pronounced the sentence for only one of the accused, Sanjay Mohanty, the court has issued non-bailable warrants against the rest.

Sources in the vigilance said a team had been constituted to nab the IAS officer, who did not turn up at his office at the secretariat on Wednesday. Kumar is currently posted as the officer on special duty in the higher education department.

"He was arrested several times in the past on the basis of the non-bailable warrant as he had flouted court's direction to appear before it. We are conducting raids at all his possible hideouts," said a vigilance sleuth.

The anti-corruption wing had registered 13 cases against him for allegedly showing undue favour in getting loans from the corporation and amassing properties disproportionate to his known source of income. The anti-corruption wing had also found that Kumar and his wife had invested heavily in the share market.
