Bhubaneswar, May 19: The concept of integrated dual-degree programmes remains unclear to both technical institutes and aspirants because the technical education department is yet to issue a notification in this regard.
Last year, the All-India Council for Technical Education had introduced the five-year dual degree courses in management for Plus Two pass outs. At least four colleges in the state had got approval from the council for starting these programmes and admissions were to begin from this academic session.
A student enrolled in this course gets a bachelor in management (BM) degree after three years, a bachelor in applied management (BAM) degree after four years and a masters in applied management degree at the end of the five-year course.
The four-year BAM degree includes a six-month internship. Project work in industries would expose the students to real-life job situations, integrating classroom lessons with practical experience. The council had earlier announced that an entrance test would be held to screen students. But it changed its guidelines later and it was decided that admissions would be done through the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) counselling, based on marks secured in Plus Two exams. However, the OJEE committee has not yet issued any information about it, leaving many aspirants on tenterhooks. Besides, the academic calendar and syllabus for this new course is also yet to be notified. The colleges, which had received approval from the council to introduce the courses, have now urged officials of the technical education department to publish the admission notice, academic calendar and syllabus for the programmes.
“A lot of queries are coming in from students and parents. However, we are unsure why a notice to this effect has not come yet. As the results of the CBSE Class XII and state board Plus Two are going to be published shortly, the government must work fast and ensure that the formalities are taken care of as soon as possible,” said Saroj Sahoo, the promoter of a technical institute.
