Colleges get set for new batches

Bhubaneswar, July 15: Colleges across the state are getting ready to receive their new batch of students.

With classes for both junior and degree colleges set to begin on July 22, the colleges are in a hurry to complete all the admission formalities.

The ST/SC seat selection list for junior colleges was announced today leaving just one more round of admission to be completed. The spot admissions for Plus Two will be held on July 20.

For degree colleges, the SC/ST seats will be clarified tomorrow and the spot admission will be completed by July 20. So far, 75,000 students have taken admission in the science stream, 1,70,000 students have been selected in the arts stream and 23,000 students have been selected for the commerce stream in 1,392 junior colleges across the state.

About 27,000 seats are still vacant in science, 14,000 seats in arts and 10, 177 seats remain to be filled in the commerce stream.

About 100 junior colleges in the state have received less than 10 students after admission of candidates in the second selection.

The vacancies are worse in degree colleges, which have been left with 10,596 empty seats in arts, 3,483 vacancies in commerce, 2,096 in physical science, 2,023 in biological science, and 303 seats in the self-financing stream.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education has already released the academic calendar for the session 2013-14 containing a set time frame within which the academic functions need to be completed.
