Balasore: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurated a newly constructed building of the Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital on September 3 at Remuna.
The state government on Tuesday decided to name the new medical facility after the doyen of Odia literature, Fakir Mohan Senapati.
Fakir Mohan had struggled hard to save Odia language and literature.
District collector Ramesh Rout said Naveen would also unveil a Fakir Mohan's statue on the occasion. "The culture department has provided the statue made of bronze. Naveen will interact with students and faculty members during his stay here. There is no public meeting as of now. The medical college and hospital is fully ready in all respects," said Rout.
Principal Pratap Rath said the admission of 100 MBBS students had been completed and classes would begin from September 3 after the inaugural function. "The classes will begin from Monday. The college is ready to function. As many as 145 new doctors, including 72 faculty members and 45 senior resident doctors, have joined the institute," said Rath.
He said the students would be given practical lessons at the district headquarters hospital from the second year.
Fakir Mohan Sahitya Parishad president Laxmikanta Tripathy welcomed the decision and said: "Fakir Mohan was the doyens of Odia literature. It's a great tribute to him."
