Cuttack, June 7: Uncertainty looms over postgraduate admissions in at least seven subjects for this academic session at Shailabala Women's Autonomous College here due to want of permission from the university to which it is affiliated.
The college has given application forms and prospectus for various postgraduate courses for 2017-18 since June 2 with June 19 set as the last date for submission of the forms.
It has offered admission to 120 PG seats in home science (48), Sanskrit (24), history (16), political science (16) and Odia (16). But, application forms for admission to 16 seats each in PG courses in education, economics, English, Hindi, philosophy, psychology and sociology had not been invited.
However, Shailabala principal Kadambini Das today said "admission into PG courses in these seven subjects will be notified later on after obtaining due permission from the Rama Devi Women's University", to which it is affiliated.
The college was permitted to introduce the seven postgraduate courses last year. "We have sought permission with the required details. We hope to get it soon," she said.
"It is unfortunate that the university has so far not given permission for admission to PG courses in these seven subjects," said All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) (Cuttack unit) secretary Binod Sethy.
"We demand timely permission from the university," said AIDSO (Cuttack unit) president Bhagyarabi Das.
