Cuttack, Nov. 6: The Cuttack district administration today sealed two diagnostic centres in the city for allegedly conducting sex determination tests in violation of the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Sex Determination Test Act.

Mother Diagnostic Centre at Ranihat was sealed by the squad as it was found that it was not reporting all procedures performed nor maintaining proper records. It was also found that the signatures of doctors on the ultrasound reports were being forged.

Officials said that all the diagnostic centres have been instructed to send daily reports of the number of ultrasound cases conducted along with documents relating to such cases being referred by doctors.

Similarly, an ultrasound machine at Sri Diagnostic Centre was seized as the equipment was not registered. A laboratory technician without necessary qualification was conducting ultrasound tests on patients.

“A lab technician was conducting the tests while at another diagnostic centre the doctor’s name was being forged on such reports. We have also seized an unregistered ultrasound machine,” said joint director (maternal health) B. Sehgal.

“It is suspected that these centres were involved in illegal sex determination. Necessary action will be taken against them,” said Sehgal.

Delta Scan, another diagnostic centre at Manisahu Chhak, was also raided by the squad for functioning without registration. According to reports, the licence of Delta diagnostic centre had expired in 2011 and the owners had applied for its renewal in January 2012 after changing its name to Delta Scan and Research Private Limited.

Officials at the chief district medical officer's office said the diagnostic centre officials were asked to produce certain documents for the renewal of their licence, which was not done.

The diagnostic centre has been sealed.
