Sambalpur, Nov. 23: The civic body has decided to take steps to improve the sanitation scenario of the city.
The Sambalpur Municipality has decided to install boards containing details of all cleaning staff and biometric attendance machines. It will also start door-to-door collection of waste.
The boards will be installed at the prominent places in each ward. It will contain the names and phone numbers of the municipal staff responsible for the ward’s cleanliness.
“The people should know about the municipality staff and cleaners concerned,” said Sambalpur district collector Balwant Singh, who is also the administrator of Sambalpur Municipality.
The board will be put up in every ward of the municipality from December 1.
The decision to install biometric attendance machines has been taken to ensure that cleaning staff came to work regularly.
A volunteer from the community will take the attendance of the cleaning staff. The door-to-door collection of waste will also start in the city soon. “The cleaning staff will collect waste from each household,” Singh said and urged the residents to reduce the use of polythene.
The sanitation of the Sambalpur Municipality, which has 29 wards, has always remained a matter of concern for residents.
“The civic authority should implement these proposals as soon as possible. These will definitely help in improving the sanitary scenario of the city,” said Santosh Jha, a local resident.
“Lack of proper monitoring is one of the reasons behind the unclean city,” he said.
Another local resident, Priya Ranjan Purohit, said: “Along with implementing the decisions, the civic body should also take initiatives to create awareness among the people about cleanliness.”
