Sambalpur, Sept. 7: Four Class X girls of a prominent school here have gone missing since Friday.

Family members of the girls had lodged missing complaints at Dhanupali police station on Sunday evening. Of the four girls, two are from Motijharan, one from Kumbhapara and the other from the Pensionpara.

Reports said the four girls had left their respective homes to go to school on Friday. But they did not reach school and were marked absent. The matter came to light when one of the girls made a call to a family member around 2.30pm on Friday and said that they were fine and out of Sambalpur. The girls requested not to be searched.

However, when family member of the girls tracked down the mobile number, they found that it belonged to a man from Rourkela.

When contacted, the man said he did not know the girls and added that they had boarded the Rourkela-Tatanagar Express.

The family members suspect the girls have been kidnapped. Sambalpur police chief Akhilesvar Singh said: "We have already traced their location to Pune. A three-member team has been sent to Pune to bring them back."
