Bhubaneswar: Shweta Agarwal left her corporate job seven years ago to promote holistic education among children. She started Unmukt Cultural Centre that hosts sessions to enhance creative learning.
She shifted to Odisha to promote new learning skills among children. "I shifted my base with my husband who is an Odia. Initially, we had no idea on how to go about it. We explored a number of ways and gradually felt the need for holistic education among children here," she said.
She started off with hosting contests for children. "In the process, I realised their needs and the necessity to acquaint them with various art forms instead of binding them with a particular art," said Shweta, an architect by profession.
Last year, she stared a free library and reading space for the kids with Surya Mishra, a professor at KIIT School of Management.
"In today's competitive world, parents often overburden their kids with so many activities. They want them to be first in everything - be it academics or sports. They want them to learn karate, music, languages, drawing and what not. The kids are always running from one class to another. But it is important to make the classes enjoyable to the kids," she said.
