Dhenkanal, July 25: Around 275 students of Kantioput Sahi High School near Kamakhaya Nagar have boycotted classes for the past 15 days to protest against the appointment of a new headmaster.
Guardians have locked the school gate and staged a dharna outside the premises, demanding transfer of the headmaster, Goura Chandra Biswal.
Local people said there were six teachers working in the school, and last month, the school authorities posted Biswal as the institute’s headmaster. They demanded cancellation of the order on the ground that Biswal was not up to mark in teaching.
The guardians had written to the district collector and Dhenkanal district education officer Shipra Naik, apart from meeting the mass education department secretary in this regard.
“He is not a good teacher and he runs a business where he spends most of his time. The students will suffer,” said one guardian Pradip Sahu.
Naik said: “We have provided a headmaster as there was a vacancy. The headmaster should be allowed to work for some time. He is a good teacher. Without allowing him to work, people have gone on strike closing the school affecting their wards’ study. They cannot decide who should be posted where. It is the government to decide that.”
