GADGET FREAKS TO ENTREPRENEURS

Bhubaneswar, May 10: Here's a piece of good news for gadget-loving people in the city who love to check out items online before zeroing in on one.

Two city lads - Manishankar Sikdar and Amit Kumar Bala - have come up with an online shopping portal amokart.com, which for now is offering electronic goods.

For the time being, the service is restricted to customers in Bhubaneswar. However, the site promises to deliver goods within six hours of placing the order.

The website provides products such as mobile phones and its accessories, tablets, computer peripherals, network components and accessories, cameras, headphones and headsets.

Products from a number of popular brands are available at the online store.

The two friends after completing their engineering degrees from Centurion University took up jobs at a software company. But, they had bigger things in mind.

"We were not satisfied with our jobs. We are crazy about gadgets and devices and therefore thought of channelling it to a positive direction and do something productive. Moreover, the craze for electronic goods will never fade and there are a number of new gadgets coming to the market almost daily. So, we thought of coming up with the portal that would allow customers to check out all the latest offering in the market on one platform," said Sikdar.

Before launching the website on May 1, the boys had conducted rigorous research.

"We met a number of distributors and retailers of electronic goods to understand the demands and needs. After a lot of examination, we fixed the prices of the items," said Bala.

The website has for its tagline - Seek, find, enjoy. Explaing the reason behind it, Sikdar said: "We have given descriptions for all the products so that it becomes easier for them to arrive at the right thing. We also have options for cash on delivery and trusted gateways." said Sikdar.

One of the main attractions of the entire process is guaranteed delivery of items within six hours of purchase.

"Most of the websites take a minimum of 24 hours for delivery but that is what sets us apart," Bala said.

They have already sold a few mobile phones and routers. Their product list also includes home appliances and personal care items.

Initially, their services would be available in the city but they are planning to expand their reach soon.

"We expect to cover Cuttack in the next two months and will gradually move to Berhampur and Puri," said Sikdar.
