Bhubaneswar, May 27: The Mahila police today arrested a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan from Bhubaneswar for kidnapping a minor girl and forcing her to marry him.
A police team reached the city today after rescuing the girl from Uttar Pradesh. The accused was identified as Govinda Choudhary, a 23-year-old CISF jawan posted at Damanjodi. He hailed from Atroli in UP’s Aligarh district.
The police filed a case following complaint by the girl’s father and arrested the accused. He was sent to jail after the local court rejected his bail plea. The police said the jawan kidnapped the girl from Bhubaneswar railway station on May 9 with the help of his brother-in-law. The girl’s family member lodged a missing complaint in the Mahila police station. The police traced the girl in Uttar Pradesh after tracking phone calls made to her.
Officials in the Mahila police station said the 17-year-old girl, who was studying in Class XII, was forced to go to the Bhubaneswar railway station from where the jawan’s brother-in-law Yaspal Tomar took her to Baraut in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said the jawan, who was worked for NALCO and was posted at Angul, had got linked to the girl three years ago. After the girl’s father, also an NALCO employee, got to know about it, he had complained to the CISF deputy commandant and the jawan was shifted to Damanjodi.
At the same time the girl’s parents changed her school from Angul to Bhubaneswar. But the jawan followed her to Bhubaneswar. Later, he kidnapped the girl with the help of his relative.
