Dhenkanal, May 14: Hindol BJD block chairman Nabaghan Sahu died today morning after a speeding jeep hit him from behind near his village of Ganjara under Rasol police station limits.

Sahu was on his way back home from his farm when the vehicle hit him. He succumbed to his injuries on way to Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital.

Hindol MLA and women and child development minister Anjali Behera visited the hospital to express her condolence. Family members of the deceased have alleged that Sahu’s death was no accident. While Dhenkanal town police registered case of accidental death, the brother of deceased, Muralidhar Sahu, alleged that his brother had been murdered.

“There is no question of a road accident as it is made out,” said Muralidhar and demanded a proper investigation into the matter.

Dhenkanal sub-divisional police officer, B.N. Dandapat said: “Right now we have registered a case of accidental death. “But there would be further investigation into the matter and all aspects will be inquired into.”

Sahu’s death has sent shock waves in political circles of the district. The BJD leaders and his supporters have demanded a crime branch inquiry into this death.

Two killed

Two persons were killed and four others sustained severe injuries when the Bolero car, in which they were travelling, dashed against a roadside tree in Jhankarpali of Jujomura police limit, 15km from Sambalpur town.

The deceased have been identified as Pushpa Meher (20) and Ashok Pati (55).

Police said the deceased were part of a marriage party that had gone to Baudh from Ramachandrapur of Rengali block. They met with the accident while returning from the wedding. A total of 14 people were present in the vehicle.

Four persons sustained severe injuries and they were rushed to the VSS Medical College and Hospital at Burla. The condition of the injured persons was stated to be critical.
