Bhubaneswar, Sept. 10: The Union ministry of human resources has directed Utkal University to get ready with its virtual tutorials before September end.

The electronic contents will be formally launched under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (Rusa) next month.

University authorities said the process to come up with the materials had begun. Under this project, undergraduate students in remote areas, especially in the tribal dominated districts of the state, would be able to browse e-content related to their syllabus on computers, mobile phones and tablets.

Each student beneficiary will be provided a 32GB memory chip compatible with Android phones, tablets and personal computers. This chip will be used by the students to download the electronic content while they are at college.

Utkal University has been designated as a nodal centre in the state to prepare these course materials. The university has already received Rs 5 crore under Rusa for developing the contents. The university has constituted a special team for the purpose and experienced resource personnel have been roped in for the purpose.

While the course materials in the arts stream will be prepared in both Odia and English languages, the e-BSc and e-BCom subjects will be made available only in English.

"We have shortlisted some organisations with experience in production of e-learning course material, maintenance of the interactive portals for e-learning and management of laboratory and production facilities," said a varsity official.

Besides Utkal University, the facility will be made available for students of Berhampur University, Sambalpur University, Fakir Mohan University, North Odisha University, Ravenshaw University, Ramadevi Women's University, KhalikoteUniversity and Gangadhar Meher University.
