Bhubaneswar, Oct. 30: Chain snatchers have once again become active in the capital.

In the last few days. two chain-snatching incidents were reported in the city.

Last evening, two-motorcycle borne criminals snatched the gold necklace of a woman as she was coming out of Giridurga temple at Unit-III area right in front of the Kharavela Nagar police station.

The victim, Kalpana Das, has lodged a complaint with the Kharavela Nagar police. In her complaint, Das, a resident of Badagada area, mentioned that she had come to the temple for evening prayers with her daughter.

“After prayer, I came out of the temple and all of a sudden two persons on a motorcycle snatched my necklace and sped away towards Ram Mandir square. By the time I realised what happened and shouted for help, they had fled the spot,” said Das.

In another incident, two motorcycle-borne criminals snatched the chain of a middle-aged woman near RBI colony in Nayapalli area, hardly 100 metres from the local police station, a few days ago. The 50-year-old victim could not recognise the snatchers as they were wearing helmets. Police began investigations after receiving a complaint from the woman’s husband.

A senior police officer said the criminals, who had been active in the city few months ago, were arrested later and put behind bars. However, they are out of jail now and active again.

“As these goons were behind bars, there were no such incidents during Dussehra. However, after getting out on bail, they are again creating problems for the public,” said a police the officer. The Kharavela Nagar police have conducted raids at the slums to nab the culprits.
