Bhubaneswar, July 18: Medical aspirants and their parents have approached the Odisha Joint Exam Entrance (OJEE) authorities to postpone the medical counselling.
This is because the counselling for two other major entrance examinations— the All India Pre-Medical Examination (AIPMT) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance — are yet to be held. As many as 2,852 students have registered for medical counselling under OJEE 2012, which already commenced from June 17.
“My son has appeared for both the AIPMT and the AIIMS and we are hoping that he makes it to a good college. But with the seat allotment dates for MBBS by the OJEE being scheduled before the AIPMT, there is a lot of uncertainty,” said Gourhari Nayak, the parent of a medical aspirant. During previous years, the OJEE used to conduct counselling after the AIPMT counselling. But this year, it started counselling ahead of the AIPMT, which is slated to begin on July 24.
The result for the AIIMS is scheduled to be announced on July 27. Students, who had secured ranks in both the OJEE and the AIPMT would take admission through OJEE, leaving those in lower ranks with no seats to join, said an aspirant. OJEE authorities said the dates could not be postponed as they were fixed in accordance with the Supreme Court judgment passed on May 14, which ordered that admissions into medial courses in the country should be completed before September 30.
“We will not initiate any changes in the schedule as any deviation from the dates will be contempt of court,” said OJEE vice-chairman Sitaram Mohapatra.
Document verification at various nodal centres will begin from tomorrow and continue till July 22. While the first round of allotment will be from July 26, the final round of allotment will be out on August 1.
In a related development, the state government has decided to reserve 10 per cent of the MBBS seats at Hi-Tech medical college in Rourkela for eligible candidates belonging to the western Odisha development council area.
These include 10 districts — Boudh, Bargarh, Balangir, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Nuapara Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Angul.
