Egg attack

Balangir: Eggs were pelted on agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy's vehicle during his visit to Balangir on Tuesday. Sources said the minister's car was attacked at a railway level crossing in the city. Police said some BJP activists have been detained for their alleged involvement in the incident.

Sethy wife

Bhubaneswar: The CBI on Tuesday questioned the wife of Ponzi firm Artha Tatwa chief Pradip Sethy. She did not speak to the media after leaving the CBI office. 

Servitors

Puri: The local district administration on Tuesday began the process of confiscating the properties of five servitors who are wanted by police for assaulting the district magistrate and indulging in unruly behaviour during the niladri bije ritual of the Holy Trinity on July 17. The police had asked the five to surrender by Monday failing which their properties were to be attached.

Bridge

Koraput: Road communication to 22 villages in Narayanpatna of Koraput district was disrupted when the Langadabeda bridge collapsed due to heavy flow of rainwater on Monday night.

Lightning kills one 

Nayagarh: One person was killed and another critically injured when lightning struck in Bandhamunda panchayat in Nayagarh district on Tuesday. According to a local source, the deceased has been identified as Nabakishore Pradhan. Suratha Pradhan sustained severe burn injuries. They were plucking eggplants when lightning struck. They were them to the government hospital at Tangi where doctors declared Nabakishore dead.  

Labourer dead

Balasore: A 25-yearold labourer died in an accident on Tuesday, while working at a fly ash brick processing unit at Banaparia. The deceased has been identified as Bapun Singh of Chhanapur village.

Nine detained

Jeypore: Jeypore Town police detained nine persons, including a middleman, from the railway station on Tuesday. The middleman was taking the eight others outside the state to employ them as migrant labourers. Acting on a tip off, a police team nabbed them. The eight persons are residents of Koshagumuda.

Rain forecast

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to receive heavy rain and thundershower in the next 24 hours due to the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal, an IMD bulletin said.
