Mahanadi meet

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday said the state government would inform the Centre within two days about its stand over the tripartite meeting on the upstream Mahanadi projects being carried out by the Chhattisgarh government. Union water resources minister Uma Bharti has convened the meeting.    

Murder cuffs

Gajapati: Police on Tuesday arrested seven persons of Chudangapur village under Adaba police limits in Gajapati district for murdering two persons for “practising sorcery”. Sources said these villagers, along with some others, allegedly killed Ganga Gamanga, 45, and Biranchi Bastaray, 48, suspecting them of practising black magic.

Baby branded

Jeypore: A seven-month-old baby was branded with hot iron by a village quack to cure an ailment at Bhaluguda under Jeypore block in Koraput district. The critically injured baby has been admitted to Jeypore sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
