Bail plea rejected
Cuttack: The bail petition of a servitor at the Jagannath temple in Puri, Rabi Dash, allegedly involved in the niladri bije fiasco was rejected by Orissa High Court on Monday. He is one among the absconding servitors who had allegedly abused Puri district collector Aravind Agarwal and manhandled media personnel during the rituals on July 17.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha will collaborate with China in the Make In India conference, scheduled to be held in December, said chief secretary A.P. Padhi, who held a discussion with the president of India China Trade and Culture Centre and S.K. Roy, the commerce secretary of the Indian consulate in Shanghai on Monday.
Fighter dead
Balasore: Eminent freedom fighter and former MLA of Bhograi, Durga Shankar Das, passed away on Monday at the district headquarters hospital here. Das was 97. He was admitted to the hospital on August 11 for age-related complications.
Charge sheet
Bhubaneswar: A second charge sheet was filed by the cops on Monday against notorious pimp Sunil Meher in connection with his alleged involvement in a sex racket in running cars.
Assembly session
Bhubaneswar: MLAs, especially those from western Odisha, have taken exception to the announcement of the Assembly’s monsoon session starting from September 7 as Nuakhai, a major festival of the region, falls on September 6, making it difficult for them to attend Assembly the very next day.
Prisoner dead
Cuttack: An undertrial prisoner died under mysterious circumstances in Choudwar Jail in Cuttack on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Golak Karmakar. He was allegedly thrashed to death, said sources. Golak was booked in a domestic violence case.
Biju centenary
Bhubaneswar: Eminent Diplomat Lalit Mansingh met chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the secretariat on Monday and discussed modalities related to co-operation between Odisha and Indonesia on the occasion of former chief minister Biju Patnaik's birth centenary. Sources said a series of debates would be hosted by the India-Indonesia Co-ordination Committee on September 14, 15 and 16 at Bhubaneswar.
