Jagannath temple

Bhubaneswar: The servitors of Puri’s Jagannath temple have decided  to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his immediate intervention in the repair of the 12th century shrine. On Saturday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had requested Modi to instruct the director general of Archaeological Survey of India to reconsider its decision to stop installation of stainless steel frames inside the ancient temple.

Rain expected

Bhubaneswar: The regional meteorological centre on Saturday said the formation of a low-pressure area over the south-west Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka coast could bring showers in parts of the state around May 18. Met sources said the low-pressure area was likely to intensify into a depression in the next 48 hours and trigger rain along the coastal parts of the state. Experts also predicted that the monsoon will hit the state on June 8. It will cross the Andaman coast in the next two to three days, they added.

Charred

Bhubaneswar: An elderly man was charred to death inside a room after rescuing her daughter-in-law and grandchildren from a fire at Narada slum in Balipatna. The incident took place on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Mir Urfan Ali. A source said the fire took place when Mir, her daughter-in-law and grandchildren, were sleeping inside a room.
