Heatwave alert

Bhubaneswar: The Met department has issued heatwave alert after the mercury rose substantially on Sunday. Bhawanipatna recorded the highest day temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius. Temperatures hovered above 40 degrees Celsius at 15 places across the state. The official death toll due to sunstroke reached 13, said a source from the state disaster management control room. Of the 135 deaths, investigation has been completed in 61 cases. While 13 deaths have been confirmed due to sunstroke, 48 deaths were due to other reasons.

Man shot at

Paradip: An employee of a hardware store of Jagatsinghpur sustained  gunshot injures on Saturday evening  when two motorcycle-borne men  allegedly opened fire at  him  after looting around Rs 90,000  from  him at  Nuapada Chhak on the Cuttack-Paradip state highway near Tirltol police station.

Neglect cry

Berhampur: Susant Pani, a resident of Ambajhari village in Gumma block alleged negligence in treatment that claimed the life of his wife Archita and her newborn baby at the district headquarters hospital in Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district on Saturday.
