New RSP boss

Rourkela: Ashwini Kumar has taken over as the new chief executive officer of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Before taking over the responsibility, he was posted here as the executive director (works) of RSP. The post of the ED (works) is solely responsible towards the productivity of the plant. Kumar holds an engineering degree from IIT, Roorkee.

Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar police arrested Jagannath Reddy on the char-ges of loot attempt on Saturday. The cops said he and his associates had tri-ed to rob a mobile phone from a pedestrian on March 19.

Amphitheatre

Cuttack: A state-of-the-art amphitheatre was inaugurated at the National Law University on Saturday. It has been designed in an open area pattern with a tensile fabric covering as roof.

Sex racket notice

Bhubaneswar: Chandrasekharpur police on Saturday issued a notice to the owner of the flat from where an alleged sex racket was busted and a Kyrgyz woman was rescued on March 23. Chandrasekharpur police station inspector-in-charge Devi Shankar Prasad said that they had issued the notice to Swarup Mohanty.

Dhal Samant

Cuttack: Police on Saturday arrested three aides of gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant. Sanjiv Arora, deputy commissioner of police said that contractor Bhagwan Sahoo (55) has been arrested for his alleged involvement in various tender fixing and extortion activities. Sahoo is also an aide of Bharat Bhusan Swain, who was nabbed by police last month. Sukant Behera and Mangu Bastia were also arrested on Saturday.

Body found

Sambalpur: A 24-year-old woman, Manju Munda, was found hanging from the ceiling in her house at Sahapali within Sadar police limits on Friday. Police have arrested Munda’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law and are probing into the case.

Sex racket

Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday busted a sex racket operating in Chandrasekharpur and detained one person in this connection. The police have also rescued a 21-year-old girl who claimed to be from Russia, but failed to produce her passport and visa. The police said that the girl claimed to have landed in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. Cops are interrogating his male companion Somesh Panda to verify her claims.

Bhubaneswar: World Meteorological Day was celebrated at the regional meteorological centre at Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. An open-house exhibition was organised where a number of meteorological instruments were displayed to give the common man and students an idea about weather forecasting.

Rourkela: A 70-year-old man died on Wednesday in a fire mishap.
